What is involved in an evaluation and what can we tell our clients to expect?

Once we have the needed referral information, we will schedule two dates for the psychological phase and one date for the psychiatric phase of the evaluation (when relevant).  The two psychological appointments will be conducted at our offices.  The psychiatric appointment will be conducted at Family Psychiatric Services.

The first psychological appointment consists of the administration of objective psychological testing. This appointment is usually scheduled from 9:00 AM to approximately 5:00 PM, although your client should be prepared to be here the full day. The client should bring any needed aids such as glasses or hearing aids. The client must bring any needed medications and you should make sure we are aware of those medications and any others the client may use. We do not provide lunch, but can provide a place for the client to eat a bag lunch. There are restaurants in the area for non-incarcerated clients.

The second psychological appointment is scheduled on a separate day. This appointment consists of a biographical interview and clinical interview with the psychologist(s). Your client will be here approximately three and one-half hours, usually from 8:30 AM until noon. This appointment may run longer or shorter than scheduled.

If a psychiatric appointment is a part of this evaluation, a third visit may be required. We will attempt to schedule the second psychological appointment and the psychiatric visit for the same day at our offices, to minimize transport and maximize convenience for your client.
